Katie O'Hearn

All About Katie

Welcome students, families, and community members!

My name is Katie O'Hearn and I am thrilled to be joining the Lake Balboa College Prep staff this year (2019-2020) as a fifth grade teacher.

I am originally from New England. I received my B.S. in Family Studies and Child Development from the University of New Hampshire and my M.Ed in Elementary Education, also from UNH. After completing my M.Ed, I taught kindergarten for two years in the small town of Middleton, NH. While teaching there, I was fortunate to receive training in Responsive Classroom and trauma-informed teaching practices. After relocating to California in 2018, I taught first grade at Buena Vista Elementary in Palmdale, CA during the 2018-2019 school year.

I currently live in North Hollywood with my husband, Doug, and our dogs, Frodo and Samwise (Sam for short). Doug is also a teacher, and teaches 7th grade Social Studies at La Mesa Junior High in Santa Clarita, CA. In our free time, we enjoy camping, hiking, going to the dog park, attending comedy shows, exploring California, and making music together (we both play guitar).

My personal hobbies include guitar (proficient), drums (complete beginner), singing, cooking/baking, reading, letter art/calligraphy, creative writing, and fitness.
